How people get around in Europe
Western Europe boasts an extensive and efficient transportation network. High-speed trains like the Eurostar, TGV, and ICE connect major cities, making rail travel a convenient option. Public transportation in cities such as London, Paris, and Berlin includes buses, trams, and metro systems. For long-distance travel, budget airlines offer numerous flight options.
Eastern Europe offers a mix of modern and traditional transportation methods. Trains and buses are widely used for intercity travel, with networks extending across countries like Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania. According to many accounts, East-European trains are safer than those of their Western counterparts. In urban areas, metro systems are available in cities like Sofia, Prague and Budapest, while buses and trams are common in smaller towns.
Several ferry ports connect the North-East or the Baltics( Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) with Germany, Sweden, and Finland.
Orient Express, on October 4th, 1883, the most luxurious train in the world left the Gare de l’Est. It linked Paris to Constantinople in less than 76 hours. Following Le Train Bleu’s legacy, The Luxury Train Club trains offer a relaxed and gentle voyage across Europe and beyond. The trains travel through spectacular countryside, mountains, and valleys or along coasts, rivers, and lakes, showcasing vistas not visible from roads.
